The Last of Us: Activity of the Week

Stuck at home? Stay entertained with unique games

Over the years, we’ve learned how to make being locked in a room as entertaining as possible. Although you can’t come over to Breakout CoMo at the moment, there are plenty of ways to have fun while you’re locked in your own room. In this series, we’ll share our favorite isolation-friendly games to keep you entertained while stuck at home.

The Last of Us is one of our all-time favorite video games. And we’re not the only ones who love it - The Last of Us has won more than 200 Game of the Year awards. If you experience its breathtaking graphics and immersive storyline, you’ll instantly understand why it’s such a highly regarded Playstation game.

The Last of Us is inspired by The Walking Dead, and it will fully transport you to a post-pandemic world where you’re forced to fight zombies for your life. It provides a level of drama and emotions that we’ve never experienced with other video games.

While this game does touch on themes that strike a chord with what we are going through now, it counteracts the confinement of our present situation with the breathtaking graphics of expansive outdoor settings and urban environments retaken by nature. The Last of Us is the right amount of challenging, even for those who have not played a lot of modern video games, and there is an intensity to it that would have you biting your nails if they weren't glued to the controller.

All about The Last of Us

  • Playstation game

  • Created by Sony

  • Action/adventure game

  • “Mature” rating

  • Graphics: 9/10. The rendering of both urban and rural settings is beautiful. The decay of society is depicted through nature taking over the abandoned and crumbling builds. The lighting is used to add to the horror sections of the game, and the designers even managed to add in moments of breathtaking beauty.

  • Difficulty: 7/10. The game offers several difficulty levels. “Easy” and “normal” are forgiving enough to provide a challenge, yet they still allow players to feel out the controls. On the other end, “grounded” mode completely changes the game: One false move will end an attempt, so players have to approach every encounter differently than they did in easier levels. Surviving sections becomes more like a puzzle than a shoot ‘em up approach, which gives game a whole new feel. All that said, the game never feels insurmountable or unfair.

  • Story: 10/10. The story is the strongest part of the game. The plot’s twists and turns were surprisingly creative and compelling. The shocking series of events that play out go hand in hand with the wonderfully rich characters and their compelling relationships with each other. Every character in the game has a past that shades their view of the world. There are many moments in the game that would be considered extremely gritty and dark, but that is true to the world they are trying to portray.
